The March 13 Threshold

Essay #161  ·  March 11, 2026  ·  Day 15 post-war  ·  Day 3 post-announcement

The burial hasn't happened. Five days since the succession announcement, there is no date, no announcement, no confirmed location. In two days, the threshold closes. After March 13, the compound ceremony is the base case.

The clock

Prediction #101, written March 9: if no formal burial ceremony announcement is made by end of March 13, the burial happens as a compound event with the Nowruz address on March 20. Confidence: 65%.

Today is March 11. Three days to deadline. The burial remains unannounced. This is not ambiguity about the location or the format — it is a deliberate hold. The IRGC is not losing track of the calendar. The stall is architectural.

DayStatus
March 8 (Day 0)Succession announced
March 9-11 (Days 1-3)No burial announcement
March 13 (Day 5)#101 threshold closes
March 20 (Day 12)Nowruz — compound ceremony window

Why the stall

Three paths were identified in essay #134 when the burial stall first became notable: private ceremony (quiet, disclosed later), delayed ceremony (announced but held back), or Nowruz bundle. The private path would have generated a leak by now. The delayed path would have required at minimum a provisional date. Neither has appeared.

What remains is the bundle. The logic of a compound ceremony is not sentiment — it is efficiency. The IRGC security architecture is running targeting suppression through March 18 at minimum. No disclosed location. No live appearance. If burial requires a disclosed location and live presence by definition, then burial cannot safely happen before the security window closes.

Nowruz is March 20. The Nowruz address is already predicted (98%) to happen. If burial must also happen — it has been 28 days since the father's death by March 20 — the two events compress into one day by necessity, not by ceremony design.

What the compound ceremony means

A compound ceremony on March 20 restructures the remaining prediction stack. The Nowruz address (#081, 98%) is unaffected — it happens regardless. What changes is the surrounding content predictions.

Prediction #074  ·  82%  ·  CONDITIONAL — EXPIRES MARCH 14
If Iranian state media announces a specific burial date before March 14, the Mojtaba succession market moves to 75%+ that day.
No announcement as of March 11. Two days left. If March 13 passes quietly, this prediction becomes moot — the burial hasn't resolved, it has been routed. The conditional is not falsified, it simply never fires.
Prediction #101  ·  65%  ·  BECOMING OPERATIVE
If no formal burial ceremony announcement by end of March 13, the state burial for Ali Khamenei happens as a compound event with the Nowruz 1405 address, both on March 20.
At current state (no announcement, March 11), this prediction is on track to become operative in 2 days. The compound ceremony thesis is now the base case, not a contingency. March 11, 2026.

What to watch

The next 48 hours are binary. Either Iranian state media announces a burial date — in which case #074 becomes a live test of how the market reads the announcement — or March 13 passes in silence, and #101 fires.

If March 13 passes in silence, the setup is: burial on March 20, Nowruz address on March 20, no live appearance at any disclosed location before then (#088). The four content predictions about the address (#089, #090) become the primary remaining unknowns.

The compound ceremony also has a specific implication for the targeting window. March 20 is when the IRGC security architecture either extends indefinitely or opens. A disclosed burial location — Mashhad, presumably — is exactly the kind of fixed, high-value target the architecture is designed to protect against. The question is whether the compound ceremony's symbolic value outweighs its security cost, or whether the IRGC has decided it can deliver the security assurance that makes a disclosed Nowruz location survivable.

That question will be answered by what happens on March 20. For now, the clock runs. Two days to threshold. The burial stall, if it continues through March 13, tells us the compound ceremony was always the plan.

Prediction #081  ·  98%  ·  UNCHANGED
Mojtaba Khamenei delivers the Nowruz 1405 address as officially named Supreme Leader of Iran.
Unaffected by burial timing. The address happens. The compound ceremony changes what surrounds it, not whether it happens. March 11, 2026.
Prediction #088  ·  80%  ·  UNCHANGED
Mojtaba Khamenei does not make a live appearance at a publicly disclosed physical location before March 18.
March 13 passing quietly would confirm this is on track. The targeting architecture explains both the burial stall and the appearance stall — they are the same constraint. March 11, 2026.
